Reading Connections

If you read for fun you are much more likely to succeed in school.  Challenge yourself to read one of the following book lists.  Maybe you will connect with new authors, titles and genres that  you haven't before.  Remember, if these books aren't available in our library, you can request them from other schools in the district and from your public library.  Just click on the links at the left.

Maine Student Book Award Nominees
If you are in grades 4-8 help choose the next Maine Student Book Award winner.  There are 40 nominees.  This is a great list of fiction and nonfiction books. Challenge yourself to read all 40 and become a Star Student!  Learn more about Star Students here.  LINK  Nominees for 2013-14 LINK

Past MSBA Winners
The Maine Student Book Award has been given since 1991.  Challenge yourself to read all of the past award winners.  LINK

Chickadee Nominees
Children in grades K-4 have the very important job of choosing the Chickadee Award winner from a list of ten nominees.  Get a jump start reading the nominees for 2013-2014.  LINK

Past Chickadee Winners
The Chickadee Award has been given since 2005.  Challenge yourself to read past winners and nominees.  Can you read them all?  LINK

Caldecott Medal Winners
Each year one children's book published in the previous year is given the distinction of receiving the Caldecott Medal.  The Caldecott is for excellence in illustrations and it is primarily awarded to picture book fiction.  Read all of the winners from the past 75+ years!  LINK

Caldecott Medal and Honor Winners
In addition to Caldecott Medal winners chosen each year there are honor books chosen as well.  If you finish reading all of the medal winners, move on to the honor books! LINK

Outstanding Science Books for Children
This list of book includes biographies, natural sciences, and technology for grades K-12.  If you like nonfiction this is a great list for you!  LINK

Notable Social Studies Trade Books for Children
