Folktales and Fairytales

The 398s are a very special collection of books in our nonfiction section.  Have you ever heard of Goldilocks and the Three Bears?  How about Little Red Riding Hood or Hansel and Gretal?  These are all folktales.  Folktales are stories that have been passed down from generation to generation for hundreds of years.  They are so old that no one remembers who the original story teller was.  Even though they are fiction stories we give them a special place in the nonfiction collection.  Take a look at the 398s and see what you discover.

Our folktales page on the right has some sites where you can read many traditional folktales.  Try copying the text to a word processing program and adding your own illustrations.

Story Nory is a great website where you can listen to stories, including folktales, for FREE.  I think you will really enjoy these stories told by professional actors.  Let me know what you think!

I hope you have fun with folktales and the 398s! -Mrs. Tibbetts
